Join a BB Collaborate Session

DOWNLOADING and USING BB COLLABORATE:

FIRST PLEASE NOTE:
You MUST have the latest version of Java to use BB Collaborate. To verify that you have the latest version of Java, go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp.


If your instructor is using BB Collaborate, you will see a link like this in your course.

Your instructor's virtual office may be located in the Communications section of the class but can vary depending on the professor and if the session is in a specific week, or unit.

To join a session, click on the title of the session "Lisa Clark's Virtual Office" in this case (or sometimes a web link may have been sent to you).

Room Details will appear, and if this is your first time using BB Collaborate you will have to download and install the BB Collaborate Launcher.

When you click "download the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher" you will see this screen:

Click DOWNLOAD LAUNCHER

**If there is no link to the BB Collaborate Launcher just click Join Room and continue on to the Steps to Install below **
If this is your first time joining a room on your computer you will have to download the BB Collaborate Launcher (you will only have to do this once on your computer). Scroll down to see how to download the launcher in various browsers.

DEPENDING ON THE BROWSER YOU ARE USING YOU WILL SEE VARIOUS DOWNLOAD PROMPTS.
SCROLL DOWN TO FIND INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BROWSER YOU ARE USING:


In Mozzilla Firefox it will look like this. Click OK.

Once you click OK you will see the arrow on the top right corner of your browser loading.

Once the download is complete, Click the ARROW, and you will see the BB Collaborate Launcher file - or meeting-1.collab file if you already had the launcher. Double click on the file to install.

In Chrome it will look like this. Click OK, then double click the download at the bottom left corner of the browser.

In Chrome once the download is double clicked, a RUN box will pop up. Click RUN!

Internet Explorer will look like this at the bottom of your screen and click OPEN

Steps to Install:
Once you have downloaded and RUN the BB Collaborate Launcher Setup Wizard it will want to install. Click NEXT.
Then click INSTALL

Once the Launcher is installed on your computer, if the room doesn't automatically open, you can go back to the link in your class.

and click Join Room

It will download the same way the launcher did (see above for the browser you are using)
When you click SAVE FILE, it will go to up to the arrow on the top right corner of your screen.
Look for, and double click on the "Meeting" in your downloads. It may take a few seconds to load.

Once the program starts running, you must ACCEPT the terms and conditions.

Next, select the Internet connection speed you are using ("Cable/DSL" is most common - so just click OK). You may also check "Don't show this dialog again" if you don't want to see this dialog again.

When the connection is verified, you will enter the session. This tool allows you to do many things with the class or one-on-one with the instructor. The title "Moderator" is usually the instructor in the class. The "Main Room" is the default room you are placed in. Depending on the settings, some of the tools will need to be turned on by the moderator.
